 
                This is the Moza Racing R25 Ultra, the company’s newest and most powerful wheelbase to date. Delivering an incredible 25 Nm of torque, it introduces new features, algorithms, and design updates that place it firmly in flagship territory. Sent to me by Moza for review, I’ve spent time testing it across multiple sims, and today I’ll break down the good, the bad, and whether it is worth the upgrade.

Moza Racing needed a refresh to its high-end direct drive lineup, and the R25 Ultra delivers.
It features sustained torque of 25 Nm, a 21-bit encoder, and a new zero-cogging flat wire motor designed specifically for sim racing. Moza claims it offers “26 percent higher torque density than competitors”, and based on my testing, the smoothness and consistency back that up.
From a design standpoint, Moza has nailed it. The R25 looks clean, modern, and minimalistic, finally matching the rest of Moza’s growing ecosystem. It is built entirely from CNC-machined aluminum, can be mounted from the bottom, side, or front, and includes customizable RGB lighting and a built-in speaker.
That said, the power button is still on the back. It is a small detail but one that continues to be an unnecessary inconvenience.
Although heavy and intended only for dedicated cockpits, the R25 Ultra feels like a truly premium product. The machining, texture, and finish all feel high quality. The RGB strip (probably inspired from Asetek) adds a touch of style, even if most users will probably turn it off. It can technically display telemetry such as shift indicators, but its position means it is not particularly practical. It looks good though, and that counts for something.
Let’s talk about torque. 25 Nm of force is an extreme figure, and nobody should run this wheelbase at full strength. That would be unsafe and completely unnecessary. The real advantage of a high-torque system is the headroom it provides.
Think of it like owning a powerful computer. You are not running the processor at 100 percent all the time, but the extra power ensures everything runs smoothly. Similarly, the R25’s motor operates well below its limits when producing more realistic resistance, such as 8 to 12 Nm. This results in smoother force delivery, less heat buildup, and greater consistency over long sessions.
This also prevents small details from getting lost when multiple effects combine. Surface texture, curbs, and steering weight all remain distinct and natural. Even when you lower the force for comfort, you still benefit from the high resolution and the quality of the motor.
In practice, this translates into a superb driving feel.

So, how does it feel on track?
In short, it feels exceptional.
After spending time tuning it through Moza’s Pit House software and in-game settings, I achieved one of the most natural and detailed experiences I have ever felt. Out of the box, however, the base did not feel great. Moza should improve the default tuning profile with a software update, but once adjusted properly, this wheelbase feels outstanding.
You can feel every small bump on a curb, every texture change on the road, and every shift in grip. The feedback precision is remarkable and genuinely improves driving consistency. I found myself catching more slides and feeling more connected to the track.
This responsiveness comes from the 21-bit encoder, which offers over two million points of precision, and from Moza’s new TrueTorque system. The R25 Ultra uses a real torque sensor with 0.1 percent accuracy and a 2 kHz response rate, meaning it measures the exact force you apply instead of estimating it.
This results in faster reactions, sharper handling, and a steering feel that is more natural and connected. It is not a revolutionary leap, but it is a meaningful refinement that noticeably enhances immersion.
Many will compare the R25 Ultra to high-end competitors such as Simucube, Asetek, and VRS. My opinion is that although the R25 is excellent, with precise and exceptionally smooth feedback, it is not a night-and-day difference compared to other high-end wheelbases. The reality is that once you reach this performance tier, the differences become more about feel, tuning, and software refinement rather than raw capability. The R25 delivers the same premium level of smoothness, fidelity, and responsiveness that you would expect from any flagship base, but how that feedback is interpreted and translated into the car varies slightly between brands.
Simucube’s wheelbases, for instance, are often praised for their natural “analog” feel and subtle force layering, while Asetek’s units lean toward a more mechanical and direct sensation. Moza’s strength lies somewhere in between, blending sharp precision with an engaging, connected driving feel. The difference is subtle but noticeable depending on your setup and personal preference. In short, the R25 Ultra holds its own against all of them, offering the same level of refinement and responsiveness at a significantly lower price point.
Performance differences between top-tier direct drive wheelbases are now very small. What truly separates them are price, reliability, and the ecosystem around them. In these areas, Moza continues to improve and impress.
At $899 USD, the R25 Ultra might seem expensive, but once you look at the competition, its value becomes clear:
At about $36 per newton meter, the R25 Ultra offers the best value among high-end wheelbases. Combine that with Moza’s expanding ecosystem, potential Xbox compatibility, and one of the easiest software setups in the industry, and it is easy to see why this base is so competitive.

If there is anything to criticize, it has more to do with the limitations of the sims themselves rather than the wheelbase. The R25 Ultra performs exactly as I would expect from a top-tier product. It feels powerful, responsive, and incredibly detailed.
Most sim racers will still be completely satisfied with something like the R12.
