Logitech Shifter for G29 and G920 in 2020 | Honest Review

Today, I am going to give you my honest opinion and a short review of the Logitech driving force shifter after about 6 months of ownership.

LOGITECH SHIFTER ON AMAZON

The Logitech Driving Force Shifter is one of the least expensive H-pattern shifters in the market. Coming in at around $60, the shifter is composed mainly of plastic with leather wrapped around the shifter knob as well as the boot. I'm pretty sure it's genuine leather and it's the same color and everything as the G29 and the G920 wheels. It is important to note that this shifter comes separate from the wheel and the pedals. But I'm pretty sure everyone already knew that.

In terms of the quality, it's not bad for the price. The plastic body is sturdy and it has a nice matte finish that doesn't attract fingerprints. The Logitech logo has a nice glossy finish as well. Furthermore, the shifter feels nice around the hand as it is covered in leather and it's easy to grip and all that. The little plastic tab on top of the shifter is made out of what seems like cheap plastic however which is probably my main complaint regarding the build quality. But at this price point, it is good enough.

In terms of the driving experience, this shifter is not the best. The gears are far too easy to throw around as little to no real force is required. This takes away from the immersion as it almost feels like a toy. Furthermore, due to the overall compact size of this, it's extremely common to miss-shift. You might be going from second to third but accidentally throw it into fifth. If you have a Logitech G29 or G920, you plug this shifter directly into the wheelbase and are good to go. However, if you have a non-Logitech wheel, you're going to need to purchase a third-party adapter as Logitech doesn’t offer one for some reason. To be completely honest, at the end of the day, this shifter does its job. It gives you a fun experience as you can drive around manual cars and further immerse yourself. If you want to have an insane setup and are looking for everything to be as realistic as possible, this isn't for you. Again, this shifter doesn’t feel realistic in terms of driving but it sure does look cool and works for most people out there. And coming at this price point, you can’t really ask for much more.

In conclusion, taking into consideration everything. It's not terrible for the money. I’ve heard certain people completely disregard it and not recommend it to anyone but I can’t agree with that. It looks cool, it does its job, and it doesn’t break the bank. Sure, the driving experience isn’t the best but at this price point, you can’t expect anything insane. With that being said, there are a bunch of videos on YouTube of people modifying this shifter. I know there's a little mod you can make to it which will make it require more force to shift through the gears. I also know that you can attach rubber bands around it and allow it to function as a sequential shifter. Maybe I’ll try some of those out in the future.

With that being said, thank you all for taking some time out of your day to read this, and have a fantastic rest of your day.
